BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design
About the course
The BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design at the Arts University Bournemouth is concerned with the design and manipulation of interior spaces and existing environments: building reuse, recycling and adaptation; making existing spaces fit for purpose for those who will be using them.
To accomplish this we look at all areas of interior architecture (the adaptive remodelling of existing spaces) and interior design (the creation of atmosphere and identity) through the placement of objects, manipulation of space, colour, texture, lighting and structure and the exploration of design types and concepts such as branding, residential, commercial, leisure, retail, performance, exhibition, temporary and “pop-up”.
We present the student with all the tools that the industry expects in order to represent your work including both 2D and 3D softwares and digital manufacturing techniques. Unique among interiors courses we also offer a term-long placement opportunity in your second year of study – something that employers view as being increasingly necessary for future employment. The course explores the enormous creative potential of existing environments and encourages the student, over three years, to challenge what the idea of the “interior” can be.
